Trinity CommunicationsNovember 22, 2019

United Soccer Coaches announced today (Nov. 22) the recipients of the Advocacy Awards of Excellence, and Trinity head women’s soccer coach Patrick Gilliam received the Faith Based Coaches Award. All the recipients will be honored during the 2020 United Soccer Coaches Convention in Baltimore.

The Faith-Based Coaches Award recognizes an individual, organization, group or other entity who has used their leadership style to influence individuals and core team values transparently and authentically in their work with their players, school and soccer community. Recipients were nominated by United Soccer Coaches members and selected by each individual Advocacy Group.

Gilliam has coached the past 23 years at Trinity International University, serving different stints as the head coach for both men’s and women’s soccer. His teams have qualified for 15 national tournaments; six with the NAIA and nine with the NCCAA, winning the NCCAA National Championship in 1998 and 2004. With a long list of accomplishments and awards (which includes being inducted into the NCCAA Hall of Fame), Gilliam also embodies servant-leadership with his coaches and his players. His impact goes well beyond his influence on the soccer field, but through the lives of the student-athletes and coaches he has coached, taught and mentored.
