Trinity CommunicationsOctober 07, 2019

Matthew Eppinette, MBA, PhD, has been appointed interim director of The Center for Bioethics & Human Dignity (CBHD).

Many from the Trinity community will remember Dr. Eppinette from his previous time at CBHD (2002–2007) when he served in a variety of capacities including John Kilner’s graduate assistant, director of research and analysis, and assistant director of CBHD.

“It is a joy to welcome Matthew back to the Bioethics at Trinity family,” said Michael J. Sleasman, who served as managing director and research scholar for CBHD for the past 12 years.

“As an accomplished alum, he has worked with several organizations on the frontlines of bioethical engagement in our culture. He will not only provide steady leadership for CBHD to maintain the high quality of the Center’s work during this critical time of Paige Cunningham’s leave of absence, but also to provide opportunities for the Center to continue to innovate and further expand its engagement and effectiveness.”

“I look forward to working together with Matthew to continue strengthening the important work of Christian bioethical engagement here at Trinity.”

Sleasman was appointed associate professor of bioethics and the director of Bioethics Degree Program for Trinity Graduate School in 2019.

Eppinette returns to CBHD not only with twelve additional years of experience in the arena of bioethics but also with a PhD in theology with concentrations in Christian Ethics and Theology & Culture from Fuller Seminary.

Since his time at CBHD in 2007, Eppinette has served as director of communications at Americans United for Life as well as new media manager and executive director of The Center for Bioethics and Culture (CBC). At CBC, he co-wrote and co-produced six documentary films addressing bioethics issues. Three of the films were Official Film Festival Selections, and one was awarded Best Documentary at the California Independent Film Festival.

“We are so excited for the leadership he will bring to the Center this year during Paige’s leave of absence to serve as interim president of Taylor University,” President Nicholas Perrin said.

“I am confident that the combined gifts and efforts of the exceptionally talented staff of CBHD alongside Matthew will not simply maintain the Center but will see it thrive.”
