Trinity International University (TIU) Gospel Choir performed their Christmas concert “Jesus at the Center” on Saturday, Dec. 8 from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m in the ATO Chapel. The choir performs at least once each semester, and this concert focused on the birth of Christ and his empowering of the Christian life through the Spirit.
The choir started off with the song “Jesus at the Center” followed by songs about Christ’s birth. After focusing on the birth of Christ they transitioned to non-Christmas Christian songs about Jesus and ended with the song “Jesus is the Reason for the Season.” Current Gospel Choir Director Calvin Taylor said their desire was to put on a concert that reminded people of the true meaning of Christmas. “Jesus at the Center” displayed the Christmas story in a non-traditional way as each song was chosen to highlight the setting, characters, and plot of the Christmas story.
Senior Jessa Ter Beest is a Gospel Choir member and has been involved since her first semester at Trinity.
“The purpose of the concert was to realize our lives need to be centered on Christ instead of separated into different categories,” Ter Beest said.
The Gospel Choir has been rehearsing every Sunday night since the end of September.
